Everest Base Camp Trip
Arrives Kathmandu 12th October 2007
Departs Kathmandu 31st October 2007

“Flights from Kathmandu into Lukla” . . . “rest day in Namche Bazar” . . . “views over the Khumbu Glacier” … emotive words that elicit excitement: and why? Because they are all inextricably linked to one mountain and one mountain only . . . Everest !

This excellent adventure follows in the footsteps of the mountaineering greats from the wonders of Kathmandu’s old Thamel to the dizzying heights of the Himalaya. And more than visiting the world’s highest mountain on this trek we also include the non-technical climb of Kala Pattar for what could be the best photo-call of your life!

The trek, popular as it is retains beauty and variety throughout its journey. Traveling along the course of the Dudh Kosi river we gradually climb through forests of rhododendron and magnolia. As we gain altitude and the temperatures drop we are rewarded with views of Himalayan scenery from the world’s greatest amphitheatre – Everest Base Camp.

And ahead of us will be the photographic opportunity of a lifetime!.

Timing
This Nepal trek is an autumn expedition with a view to getting the best of Nepali weather. In turn visibility should be fine, and the chance of rain low. However, bring waterproofs as advised in the packing list, and warm clothes for the higher altitudes.

Equipment
The kit list specifically required for this trekking expedition will be posted to you once booking is received. But in the meantime consider buying some good walking boots and start wearing them in . . . now. No technical kit is required, though a good 3 season plus sleeping bag will be much appreciated at the higher altitudes in the night time sub-zero temperatures.

Level of Fitness
The Everest Base Camp trek is a fourteen day trek taking us to 5600m. It does not require that you have any previous trekking or mountaineering experience and neither does it require any technical skills. Experienced walkers and trekkers will manage this easily within their stride. Days will on average involve six hours walking time, though some may be shorter or longer according to weather conditions. The fitter you are the more you will enjoy yourself on the trek. If you don't normally get out much it is never too soon to start. Exercise regularly each week to develop your cardiovascular system and stamina. At weekends, go and explore some countryside, maybe take a pack and do some camping. As a rule of thumb, if you can comfortably hill walk 10 miles (16km) then you should be fine on this trip.

Roughing It
All our trips involve a degree of 'roughing it'. On trek, showers are available, though we are reluctant to encourage use for environmental reasons, unless they are electric. However, the facilities are generally good, and in our experience hygiene is of a high order in the tea houses in which we visit. Back in Kathmandu, the hotel we use is of a high standard: clean and comfortable and great places to relax, though not ostentatious.

Outline Itinerary Price (excluding flights) : UK £950

Be sure to reconfirm all flights prior to departure. Also, if you can stay a while longer - we'd well recommend it - there's plenty more to do - we can help you arrange:
