Departs Belize City Tuesday 10th April 2007
Will4Adventure proudly presents . . . Belize! Jungle Explorer! . . . incorporating a jungle survival and bushcraft training course plus the Indian Creek Trail. Ray Mears . . . eat your heart out.
Belize has some of the best jungle on the planet. It is home to an amazing variety of wildlife, from the magnificent jaguar, the world’s third largest cat, to colourful scarlet macaws. Running the entire length of Belize’s coastline is the second longest barrier reef in the world, providing fantastic diving opportunities including the famous ‘Blue Hole’. One of the only places in the world where you can be woken up by the dawn chorus of cicadas and be drinking rum on a golden Caribbean beach in the afternoon.

Timing and Equipment Considerations
The rainy season in Belize runs from April to September, during this time river levels become dangerously high and notoriously unpredictable. In the winter the area experiences consistent fine weather with little rain. Under the canopy humidity usually runs close to 100%, you will be wet through at the end of the day one way or another! (For this reason two sets of clothing are required, daytime - wet kit and night - dry kit). One of the more character building aspects of jungle life is climbing into wet kit every morning! In the forest, night time temperatures are comfortable and require a 2 season sleeping bag. The kit list specifically required for this expedition will be posted to you with out client handbook upon bookings.
Level of Fitness for the Treks
The jungle trek is not hugely demanding physically, although a basic level of fitness is required. Mental toughness is more important, jungle life requires a high level of self discipline to keep fit and healthy in this challenging environment. Participants should ideally be used to walking with large packs.
Roughing it
All our trips involve a degree of 'roughing it'. Jungle ‘accommodation’ consists of hammocks, mossi nets and bashas (waterproof shelters). The staples for jungle trekking are porridge and noodles, occasionally supplemented with edible plants found along the way. Food is cooked over open fires and ablutions are performed in the rivers. Accommodation on the island is in comfortable beach cabins with en suite bathrooms. You will not find air con as this prevents proper acclimatisation, although a pleasant Caribbean breeze is always available.
Your Leader
Will4Adventure trips are always accompanied with a western leader – always highly skilled and qualified to work within the expedition area. Joe will lead this trip. He has extensive experience of working in the jungles of Central America and South East Asia. He learned his skills with the British Army and has to date led 8 jungle expeditions as well as undertaking scientific research in Belize. Joe is also a military paramedic and doubles as a medic while away on expeditions. He enjoys talking about the jungle to anyone who will listen. Back home he is a mature student studying medicine at Sheffield University when not working as a climbing instructor.
